The subclass 491 Visa (Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) will replace the subclass 489 (Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa – first provisional stream and will enable Applicants (eligible skilled workers) and their families to live, work and study in designated regional areas of Australia.
Period of Eligibility
The subclass 491 visa has a period of 5-years but after 3-years, holders will be eligible to apply for Permanent Residency (should all eligible conditions have been maintained).
An applicant for the subclass 491 visa must be nominated by either an Australian State or Territory Government Agent or sponsored by an eligible family member who is residing in a designated regional area. Invitation to apply must be sought after first completing and submitting an Expression of Interest.
Conditions
The subclass 491 visa is a skilled and Points-tested visa. Applicants must have a positive skills assessment and not be aged over 45 years.
As with most visas (especially regional), there will no doubt be conditions imposed; namely for Applicants to live, work and study only in regional areas.
In terms of travel, subclass 491 Visa holders will be able to move between regional areas; these are defined as any area excluding major States such as Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane (considered Metro Areas and not Regional).
